Ross Mobile
Custom Double Rack PLUS mobile production systems built for live broadcast operations with Fox Sports and major networks.
The Challenge
Ross Mobile provides mobile production services for live sports broadcasting across major networks including Fox Sports. Their crews deploy to venues nationwide on a demanding schedule, often covering multiple events per week with same-day teardown and redeployment turnarounds. Each deployment requires a complete multi-camera production system — switcher, replay, audio, graphics, and monitoring — to be fully operational within hours of arrival at the venue.
Prior to adopting Bigfoot systems, Ross Mobile's setup process involved assembling production workstations from individual road cases and separate monitor stands at each venue. This took approximately 45 minutes to an hour per workstation position, with a crew of three to four technicians handling the assembly, cabling, and testing. With multiple operator positions to build out at each venue, the total setup time consumed a significant portion of the available pre-production window. The constant assembly and disassembly also took a toll on equipment — connectors wore out faster, cables were damaged during packing, and monitor mounts required frequent adjustment. Ross Mobile needed a mobile workstation platform purpose-built for their Ross Video switcher ecosystem that could survive the rigors of full-time road deployment while dramatically reducing setup and teardown time.
The Solution
Bigfoot designed and built custom Double Rack PLUS systems specifically configured for Ross Mobile's broadcast workflow. Each system features dual 28-inch swing-up monitor mounts that deploy automatically when the lid opens, a hinged lid design for rapid deployment, and full rack capacity for Ross Video production switchers and XPression graphics systems. The rack layout was engineered around the specific dimensions and ventilation requirements of the Ross Video Carbonite and Graphite switcher lines, ensuring optimal airflow and easy access to all rear-panel connections.
The systems are built to handle the demands of live sports — constant loading and unloading, venue-to-venue transport across varying road conditions, and the pressure of going live with no room for equipment failure. Heavy-duty locking casters with shock-absorbing properties protect the rack-mounted gear during transport, while reinforced corner guards and edge protection prevent cosmetic and structural damage during the loading dock process. Internal cable management was designed in collaboration with Ross Mobile's engineering team to keep all signal paths organized and accessible for troubleshooting, while power distribution provides isolated circuits for the switcher, replay server, and monitoring systems to prevent ground loops and interference in the broadcast signal chain.

The Results
Ross Mobile's Bigfoot systems have been deployed at hundreds of live sporting events across the country, covering major league and collegiate sports broadcasts for Fox Sports and other networks. Setup time per workstation position was reduced from approximately 45 minutes to under 10 minutes — the crew rolls the system off the truck, opens the lid, connects power and signal feeds, and the operator position is production-ready. The deployment crew was reduced from three or four technicians to two per system, freeing additional personnel for camera setup and other venue preparation tasks.
The dual swing-up monitors give operators full visibility of all camera feeds, program output, and replay without requiring separate monitor stands or additional rack space — everything lives in one mobile platform. Equipment reliability improved dramatically, with Ross Mobile reporting an estimated 50% reduction in equipment service calls since adopting the Bigfoot systems. The carts have maintained consistent performance through years of constant road use, surviving the demanding travel schedule without structural or cosmetic degradation. Ross Mobile has estimated approximately 35% savings in per-event setup labor costs compared to their previous workflow, along with significant reductions in equipment replacement expenses. The partnership between Bigfoot and Ross Mobile demonstrates the effectiveness of building mobile production infrastructure specifically around the Ross Video ecosystem.
